For over 25 years my family has enjoyed living on the Kenai Peninsula. We have met many of you at the hospital, the ice rink, the hardware store, the school board meetings, or on the river. I know that you enjoy this place as much as we do.
I believe the Peninsula is a great place to live and I am concerned about some of the challenges I see developing. Healthcare and energy costs are exploding, our schools are unfairly underfunded, and many good jobs may be in jeopardy. We need to be proactive in taking action.
In elections, candidates are encouraged to say just enough to sound good. We all support “lower taxes” and “protecting the environment”—you’ve heard it before. However, I am not here to just to sound good; I am here to do things. So, I have included a fairly comprehensive coverage of the issues. Please take a minute to read it.
Some want to simplify this election to the letter “R” or “D” by a candidate’s name. I hope you will do more than that. Please look at the issues, study the candidates, and evaluate their performance histories. Ask yourself why so many prominent Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are supporting our campaign.
I thank you for your involvement. And I humbly ask for your vote.
Sincerely,
Nels Anderson M.D.

News and Notes
Tom Wagoner is seeking to eliminate the Certificate of Need and to sell our hospital. He declared his intentions in front of a few hundred people at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce. I was startled.
Selling the hospital and eliminating Certificate of Need will cause such drastic damage to your healthcare services, that I must speak boldly.
The likely consequenses of such a move are:
- Increased Healthcare Costs to patients
- Reduced Services available on the Peninsula
- Up to 600 employees out of work
- Devaluation of up to $200 million in Borough Assets
